WordPress vs Lovable:content platform or AI app builder?

WordPress is an open-source CMS built for publishing and managing content. Lovable is an AI builder that writes a working web app from a conversation. They overlap less than the hype suggests, and the right pick depends on whether you are running a content site or shipping an application.

WordPress
vsLovable

TL;DR

The honest short answer

If your site is mostly pages, articles and campaigns that editors update every week, WordPress is still the safer choice. It gives non-developers a mature editor, roles and revisions, and every page is server-rendered HTML for search engines.

If you need a working tool fast, such as a client portal, a calculator, an internal dashboard or a prototype to test an idea, Lovable gets you there in days instead of sprints. You own the code, but someone on your team should still review it before it handles real data.

Choose WordPress if

Your website is a content engine

Many pages, a blog or newsroom, several languages and editors who publish without a developer.

Choose Lovable if

You need a working app, not more pages

Portals, tools, dashboards or prototypes that need logic, logins and data, built fast and reviewed by your team.

When to choose each

Choose WordPress when

Content, search visibility and editors come first

  • Your marketing team publishes articles, landing pages or news every week
  • You need a bilingual or multilingual site with translation workflows
  • Organic search is a major source of leads
  • You want a large pool of agencies and developers who know the platform
  • Your site has hundreds or thousands of pages to manage

Choose Lovable when

You need working software quickly

  • You want to test a product idea or internal tool before funding a full build
  • The project needs logins, forms with logic, data or dashboards
  • Business teams should be able to make changes by describing them
  • You have someone who can review generated code, security settings and data access
  • A small, focused app matters more than a large content library

Use both: content on WordPress, apps on Lovable

Many teams do not need to pick one. The two tools solve different problems and sit side by side well.

A common split we recommend

Keep the public website, blog and SEO pages on WordPress, where editors already work. Build interactive tools, such as a quote calculator, partner portal or event app, in Lovable and publish them on a subdomain or link them from WordPress pages.
Example scenario: a services firm keeps its bilingual marketing site on WordPress and uses Lovable to prototype a client onboarding portal. If the portal proves its value, the team syncs the code to GitHub and hands it to developers to harden.

If you need to switch

WordPress to Lovable

When your site has become an application

  • List what is content and what is functionality; content-heavy sections may belong in a CMS still
  • Export content through the WordPress REST API or a WXR export file
  • Rebuild templates and features in Lovable, then sync the code to your Git provider
  • Map every old URL to a new one with 301 redirects to protect search rankings
  • Confirm the new pages return full HTML to crawlers before switching DNS

Main effort driver: the number of templates, plugins and integrations to replace

Lovable to WordPress

When the app turned into a content site

  • Sync the Lovable project to GitHub so you keep the full code history
  • Move pages and articles into WordPress and rebuild the design as a theme
  • Keep app features that still matter in Lovable, on a subdomain, instead of forcing them into plugins
  • Set up 301 redirects and check structured data and metadata on each page
  • Plan a maintenance routine for core, theme and plugin updates

Main effort driver: how much custom app logic must be kept or rebuilt

Common questions

Can Lovable replace WordPress for a marketing website?

For a small site with a handful of pages, yes. For a site with a blog, frequent publishing, several editors and multiple languages, WordPress still does the job with less custom work, because content management is its core purpose.

Are Lovable sites good for SEO?

Lovable apps created since May 13, 2026 use TanStack Start with server-side rendering, so every visitor and crawler receives full HTML. Older React + Vite projects are pre-rendered only for verified crawlers and can be upgraded to server rendering. Test your pages with Google's URL Inspection tool either way.

Who owns the code built in Lovable?

You do. Lovable offers two-way sync with GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket on all plans, and code editing and custom domains from the Pro plan up. That makes it possible to leave Lovable with the full codebase.

Can WordPress use AI the way Lovable does?

Not in the same way. WordPress adds AI through plugins and, since WordPress 6.9, through the Abilities API and the MCP Adapter plugin, which lets AI agents act on a site. It helps editors and developers but does not generate whole applications. See our article on AI in WordPress in production.

How do the costs compare?

WordPress software is free; your costs are hosting, premium plugins and development time. Lovable is a subscription priced by monthly credit tier, with a free plan, Pro and Business tiers and custom Enterprise contracts. Building, Lovable Cloud hosting and in-app AI all consume credits, so budget for usage, not only the plan.

Is Lovable secure enough for an enterprise team?

Lovable is SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001:2022 certified. SSO and role-based access come with the Business plan; SCIM, audit logs and scheduled security scans come with Enterprise. On Business, your data is excluded from model training by default. The generated code still needs the same review as any code your team ships.
