Netlify vs Dataweavers:composable cloud or managed DXP platform?

Both can host a headless front end, but they come from opposite directions. Netlify is a framework-agnostic front-end cloud for composable sites built on any headless CMS. Dataweavers runs and operates Sitecore, Optimizely and Contentstack platforms, front end included, inside your own Azure tenant.

TL;DR

The honest short answer

If you run several frameworks or a composable stack on a headless CMS such as Contentful, Storyblok or SitecoreAI, and want self-serve plans, built-in forms and split testing and unlimited team members, Netlify is the better platform. It is general-purpose and quick to start.

If you run enterprise Sitecore XP/XM or Optimizely, or policy requires the front end and its data to stay in your own Azure tenant, Dataweavers is the better fit. It is a managed operator with a 24/7 team, not a self-serve host for any site.

Choose Netlify if

You build composable sites on many stacks

Any framework, any headless CMS, built-in forms and split testing, and unlimited members on Pro from $20 per month.

Choose Dataweavers if

You run an enterprise DXP in your own tenant

Sitecore or Optimizely operations and a headless front end in your Azure tenant, with disaster recovery and a 24/7 operations team.

When to choose each

Choose Netlify when

You want one flexible platform for many sites

  • You run Astro, SvelteKit, Nuxt or several frameworks across sites
  • Your content lives in a SaaS headless CMS such as Contentful, Storyblok or SitecoreAI
  • You want forms and split testing without extra services
  • Many people need access and per-seat pricing would add up
  • Your security team approves a SaaS front-end host

Choose Dataweavers when

You run an enterprise DXP that someone must operate

  • You run Sitecore XP/XM or Optimizely CMS and need it operated around the clock
  • Policy requires the front end and its data to stay in your own Azure tenant
  • You want instant publishing on Sitecore through Spark, including JSS on XP/XM
  • You need disaster recovery as standard, not as a project
  • You are moving from XP/XM to SitecoreAI one site at a time

Splitting the estate is common

Organizations with one enterprise DXP and many smaller sites often use both, each where it fits.

Dataweavers for the DXP, Netlify for composable sites

Keep the main Sitecore or Optimizely platform and its front end on Dataweavers in your Azure tenant. Put campaign sites, microsites and composable properties on other headless CMS platforms on Netlify, where teams can ship without a platform contract per site.
Scenario: a university runs its main bilingual site on Sitecore XP, operated by Dataweavers. Its faculties launch event and recruitment microsites on Astro and Storyblok, deployed on Netlify with built-in forms, and the central web team reviews each change in a Deploy Preview.
The cost is two operating models. Agree on shared standards for design systems, analytics and security reviews so both sides stay consistent.

If you need to switch

Both deploy Next.js applications from Git, so moving a front end is mostly a hosting and pipeline project. Moving the CMS itself is a separate decision.

Netlify to Dataweavers Arc

Typical when a Sitecore or Optimizely front end must move into Azure

  • Confirm the site runs on a platform Arc supports: Sitecore, Optimizely or Contentstack
  • Replace Netlify Forms, split tests and Netlify Functions with Azure-hosted equivalents
  • Provision Arc in your Azure tenant, connect the repository and move redirects and headers
  • Set up publishing with Spark, then test on a staging hostname before changing DNS

Main effort driver: the number of Netlify features in use, such as forms, functions and split tests

Dataweavers Arc to Netlify

Typical after a move to a SaaS CMS

  • Confirm your security team approves a SaaS front-end host
  • Check that the Next.js features you use are supported by Netlify's adapter
  • Replace private Azure connections with APIs reachable from Netlify and set up webhook-based revalidation
  • Copy environment variables, validate caching on a Deploy Preview, then switch DNS

Main effort driver: private integrations, publishing setup and who takes over 24/7 monitoring

Common questions

Can a Sitecore front end run on Netlify?

Yes. Netlify can host Sitecore Next.js front ends, and Sitecore's guidance on self-hosting in Azure names Vercel and Netlify as providers that handle much of the configuration work. Dataweavers Spark, however, lists only Vercel and Arc as supported hosts, so plan revalidation with webhooks on Netlify.

Can Dataweavers host any website?

No. Arc is purpose-built for headless Sitecore, Optimizely and Contentstack. For sites on other CMS platforms, a framework-agnostic host such as Netlify is the usual choice. See our Netlify page and our Dataweavers page.

Which one is cheaper?

They price different things. Netlify Pro is $20 per month with unlimited members and credit-based usage. Dataweavers is quote-based and includes operations, monitoring and disaster recovery, with Azure consumption in your tenant. Compare total cost, including the people you would otherwise need to run the platform.

Which is better for regulated industries?

Netlify holds SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27018 and PCI DSS and supports HIPAA with a BAA. Dataweavers keeps the platform and its data in your own Azure tenant, which helps when policy requires data residency or private networking. Ask both for current documentation.

Is Sengo a partner of both?

Yes. Sengo is an official Netlify partner and an official Dataweavers partner, and also a Sitecore partner. We recommend whichever fits your platform and policies. Compare Netlify with Vercel in Netlify vs Vercel.

Can we use Netlify and Dataweavers at the same time?

Yes, usually by splitting sites: the enterprise DXP on Dataweavers and composable or campaign sites on Netlify. Agree on shared standards for analytics, design and security reviews.
